Care & Corrosion

Nomad uses Cr5Mo1V steel for edge retention performance. The broadheads go through a hardening process which achieves +/- 58 Rockwell hardness rating. This hardness level is equivalent to high end knife manufacturers.

Due to the carbon content of the steel which is required for the edge retention performance, the carbon allows for surface corrosion to form over a period of time and/or post sharpening. This mostly effects aesthetics and does not effect performance of the broadhead.

This may be rectified via metal polish and rust removing remedies such as a vinegar bath. We recommend lubricating post sharpening and in between use as required. Please note that chemical treatment may discolour the broadheads.

Keeping things sharp

Keeping things sharp is the best way to know that you’re after the best penetration performance possible. Our broadheads are inspected for defects prior to shipping and are fit for purpose.
Nomads unique patented blade shape makes sharpening a breeze.

Given its single bevel edge the sharpening method is much like a chisel. We recommend a flat stone or a file with medium to fine grit (800-1500). When sharpening, take into account to sharpen both sides equally to keep the flight balance as symmetrical as possible. Heavy sharpening may deform the shape of the broadhead and/or change the weight which may effect flight accuracy.

When sharpening, it is important to have a clear work area. We also recommend to use a short arrow with an outsert to assist with the holding position.

Step 1. Place the flat side of the blade on the stone. Press lightly down with one hand and while holding the thread with your other hand, slide the broadhead up and down the stone.

Step 2. Rotate the broadhead and repeat step 1.

Step 3. Place the beveled edge on the flat of the stone and your finger on top so that the whole blade’s cutting edge is touching the stone.

Step 4. In a single motion, pull the broadhead towards yourself, lift off the stone and repeat the process until desired edge is achieved.
You may also wish to use a leather strap for a finer edge finish.

Note: Due to the nature of the exercise, Nomad recommends to use caution while sharpening and are not liable for product damage and/or any injury caused.
